ABOUT THE ALBUM

The past few years spent writing & recording this album have felt like a battle to me - old wounds resurfaced, fresh ones appeared, & hope hid itself from me in a thick, sad fog that had drifted over my life.  Happy times & smiles on the outside were often silently overshadowed with the fear of losing my mom & feeling powerless in stopping it.  The healing balm of songwriting morphed into a source of dread and anxiety most of the time.  Everything lacked clarity as I became overwhelmed with an inner dialogue that constantly questioned my purpose, the goodness of a God that would allow so much suffering in the world, & grieved the loss of those taken too soon.  I felt like I was in danger of being swallowed whole by the hungry mouth of disillusionment, anger, hurt, anxiety, & confusion.  Through all this, I’ve learned there is an infinite river of darkness in the world.  It’s relentless & never dries up.  It’s meant to overtake & drown you.  And it will if you let it.  

This album is about my fight against that raging river.  That seemingly impenetrable blackness.  That heavy fog that won’t lift.  It’s about light & darkness.  It’s about being lost & found.   It’s sorrow & solace.  It’s a commitment to keep trying, to continue letting go of people & painful memories that hold me captive, & to get back up when moving forward feels impossible.  It’s a love letter inspired by both the suffering & the strength of my mom.  And it’s a promise that there really are things worth fighting for when the morning comes.

Finishing & releasing this album is one thing. But actually holding it in my hand makes it feel real. I’ve worked really hard for years to make this album happen & I’m so deeply grateful to everyone who helped me create it & was a part of it. Releasing music is a strange thing…you hold the songs so close to you for so long. You love them, you nurture them, you get tired of them & question if they’re any good, & you hope they convey all the emotions you have inside of you. Then you let them go into the world & hope people accept them, welcome them, & love them. You let go of your ego and all your expectations for them & trust that they will find the people they’re meant to find at the right moment.

My music can’t be all things to all people. But I’m hoping it does find those it’s meant to find. Songs have always helped me cope, heal, feel things deeply, & love people better. They breathe life into me, give me hope, & help me find my smile again. I hope these songs can do that for you too.
